HIRAM MANN, Sheriff

The Sheriff had many responsibilities, among them was announcing the upcoming election.  There was not a set day as there is today and the election took place over several days so that voters could make arrangements for travel and other business.  They obviously took the election process, which we had fought for only 50 years previous, very seriously.
