Deputy Brown, known as
"Johnnie T" to his friends, started on the Road Patrol
during a time when deputies worked both outside on the road and
inside in both the jail and communications. As the role and job
titles changed, deputies became more specialized and worked in a
specific area of interest. Deputy Brown chose to work
inside. Deputy Brown was a well known and respected fixture in
the correctional side of the Sheriff's Office and could mediate and
resolve problems with the inmates before the problems got out of
hand. Very soft and slow spoken, John was respected by both his
friends and the inmates who knew that when John slipped out of his
shoes he was done talking and ready for action. John retired
with the rank of Sergeant and still lives in the area.
