Ginna Releases

Wayne County is the home of the R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant.  The county trains regularly for problems at the plant and is observed by Federal and State Regulators.  In December of 1981 the county trained as usual and passed the scrutiny of the regulators.  January 25, 1982 a steam generator overheated and there was a small release of steam into the atmosphere.  The weather was not pleasant.  This photograph was taken by an Associated Press photographer and appeared worldwide.
